An exciting prospect, the Al Shaqab Racing-owned Purebred Arabian Mezown (Al Mamun Monlau x Muzoon) proved too classy for her rivals when taking the Gr.3 (PA) Royal Cavalry Oman -Prix Razzia III at La Teste de Buch, France, on Wednesday, July 13th.
Ridden by Gary Sanchez and trained by Elizbeth Bernard, the March-born three-year-old was an impressive debut winner at Toulouse in May, before chasing home colts Morad (Al Mourtajez) and Madrassa (No Risk Al Maury) to finish third in Gr.2 (PA) company at Chantilly three weeks ago.
Back in against her own sex, the Al Shaqab Racing homebred proved superior to her five rivals, to notch up a second win in the 1,900m contest for her owners, following Ryme Al Cham’s (AF Albahar) narrow success in 2019.
Eau Devie Al Maury (Seraphin Du Paon) took the field along through the opening stages of the race, while Mezown was settled against the rail just behind the leader. As the field bunched up on the turn for home, Mezown took over in front and led the runners into the straight. Despite idling in front, the three-year-old comfortably held off all challenges and went on to score by 1¾ lengths from Miss Zilal (General) who is owned and bred by H.H. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Khalifa Al Thani, trained by Didier Guillemin and was ridden by Clement Merille. The Hubert Guy-owned and Charles Gourdain-trained Jade De Faust (AF Albahar) was a further short head back in third under Maxime Foulon.
Bred by her owners Al Shaqab Racing, Mezown is out of the unraced Muzoon (Amer). A daughter of the winning mare Digama (Al Sakbe), Muzoon is a full-sister to the Al Shaqab Racing owned Motrag (Amer), winner of the Gr.1 (PA) Qatar Arabian Trophy des Poulains at Saint-Cloud in 2016. Digama also has an unraced three-year-old filly called Aljasrah (AF Albahar), who is in training with Charles Gourdain and is also an Al Shaqab Racing-owned homebred.
