Manama, The Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS) will hold a workshop on international humanitarian law from May 7-8, under the patronage of Ali bin Mohammed Murad, Vice President of BRCS, in collaboration with The ICRC Regional Delegation for the Gulf Cooperation Countries (GCC). The first day of the workshop will cover various topics such as the essence of international humanitarian law, the role of international organisations in upholding it, and the contemporary challenges in humanitarian endeavors. The agenda for the second day will include discussions on the activities of the protection department of the International Committee of the Red Cross, the implementation of international humanitarian law at the national level, safeguarding journalists in armed conflicts, and mechanisms for enforcing international humanitarian law. Mubarak Al Hadi, Secretary General of BRCS, emphasised that the workshop aligns with the society's mission to promote awareness of international humanitarian law, contributing to a lleviating the suffering of victims of armed conflicts, and highlighted BRCS's commitment to being an integral part of the international humanitarian, charitable, and relief efforts by organising awareness programs periodically. Al Hadi underscored the importance of the ongoing partnership with the ICRC Regional Delegation for the Gulf Cooperation Countries and stressed the necessity for volunteers and humanitarian workers to be well versed in the principles and regulations of international humanitarian law to carry out their duties effectively, especially in today's world marked by crises and conflicts that directly impact humanitarian conditions.
