Ceasefire in Lebanon Takes Effect After US Mediation

Istanbul: A ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel, announced by US President Donald Trump, has come into effect: A ceasefire agreement brokered by US President Donald Trump between Lebanon and Israel has officially taken effect. The initiative, announced Thursday evening, introduces a 10-day cessation of hostilities starting at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time, allowing for negotiations aimed at reaching a longer-term resolution.

According to Qatar News Agency, the US State Department confirmed that both Lebanon and Israel are set to implement the ceasefire starting overnight. This move is aimed at facilitating talks towards establishing a durable security arrangement and achieving peace in the region.

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam expressed his approval of the ceasefire, stating it was a crucial demand that Beirut had been advocating for since the early days of the conflict. The Lebanese government had consistently pushed for this during recent discussions held in Washington.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese Army has advised caution to its citizens, urging them to delay returning to southern villages and towns until the ceasefire is fully in place. They have also warned against approaching areas where Israeli forces have made advancements.

According to preliminary figures from Lebanon's Public Health Emergency Operations Center, the conflict has resulted in the deaths of more than 2,196 people and left over 7,185 injured.
