Department of Meteorology Warns of Thundery Rain, Strong Wind

Doha: Weather inshore until 6:00 pm on Thursday will be partly cloudy to cloudy with a chance of scattered rain maybe thundery at places at times, and relatively cold to cold by night, the Department of Meteorology said in its daily weather report, warning of expected thundery rain associated with strong wind.

According to Qatar News Agency, offshore conditions will also be partly cloudy to cloudy with a chance of scattered rain that may become thundery at times. The report highlights a warning about expected thundery rain associated with strong wind and high sea conditions.

Wind inshore is expected to be variable, mainly southeasterly, at speeds of 05 – 15 KT, gusting up to 25 KT with thundery rain. Offshore winds will vary from northwesterly to northeasterly, with speeds of 8 – 18 KT and gusts reaching 27 KT during thundery rain.

The sea state inshore will range from 1 – 3 ft, rising to 5 ft with thundery rain, while offshore conditions are expected to be 3 – 5 ft, increasing to 8 ft during thundery rain. Visibility inshore will range from 5 – 9 km, reducing to 3 km or less with thundery rain. Offshore visibility will be 5 – 10 km, decreasing to 3 km or less during thundery rain.
