Egyptian, Dutch Foreign Ministers Discuss Latest Developments in Gaza by Phone

Doha: Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdel Aati discussed the latest developments in the Gaza Strip in a phone call Tuesday with his Dutch counterpart Caspar Veldkamp. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that Abdel Aati affirmed, during the call, Egypt’s condemnation of the Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip Tuesday, considering them to be re-igniting tensions in the region and hindering efforts to restore calm and stability.

According to Qatar News Agency, Abdel Aati stressed the need for the international community to pressure Israel to halt its aggression on the Gaza Strip, which constitutes a flagrant violation of the ceasefire agreement. He noted that Egypt has made strenuous efforts to consolidate the agreement in its three stages.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister briefed his Dutch counterpart on developments related to his country’s efforts to support the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and prepare for the conference scheduled to be held in Cairo for early recovery and reconstruction in the Strip. He expressed his hope that the European Union (EU), including the Netherlands, would continue to provide the necessary humanitarian support to address the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Strip and participate in the conference.

Abdel Aati also emphasized the need to find a political horizon for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, especially since the two-state solution remains the only path to achieving peace in the region.
