Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expected a different momentum in the relationship between Turkiye and the United States throughout the second term of his US counterpart, Donald Trump. Addressing a press conference in Ankara following the Turkish Cabinet meeting, Erdogan stated that he discussed numerous critical issues on the phone with Trump, including the removal of all obstacles toward increasing trade between the two countries to USD 100 billion, in addition to numerous bilateral and regional issues.
According to Qatar News Agency, regarding the Europe-Turkiye relationship, Erdogan said that Europe started to recognize its need for Turkiye, not in terms of security aspects, but rather in multiple fields such as the economy, diplomacy, trade, and social life. He underscored Turkiye’s readiness to strengthen its relations with the EU and European nations within the framework of shared interests and mutual respect.
Erdogan emphasized that his government intends to proceed with implementing its economic program with determination, stressing that the foremost priority is to maintain overall financial stability. He promised to proactively take essential and flexible measures.
He explained that Turkiye’s institutions have the prerogative to ensure the proper operation of markets, stressing that he cannot afford to see the gains achieved by virtue of the two-year new economic program being damaged.
