Doha: Spanish tennis player Fernando Verdasco has officially announced his retirement during the Qatar ExxonMobil Open 2025, which takes place from February 17 to 22 at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex.
According to Qatar News Agency, the 41-year-old player confirmed that the Qatar ExxonMobil Open will be his final tournament, where he will compete alongside world number seven Novak Djokovic in the doubles event.
Verdasco stated that he could not find a better opportunity to retire than at the Qatar tournament alongside Djokovic, who is one of the greatest tennis players in history.
He added that he will give his all during his last tournament and enjoy every moment of it, extending his thanks to everyone who has been by his side throughout his career.
Verdasco has won seven ATP titles and three Davis Cup titles. His highest ranking was world number seven, and he played a total of 559 matches. His best Grand Slam result was reaching the semifinals of the Australian Open in 2009.
