GCC Reiterates Need for Political Way-out in Yemen

The Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) reiterated the need to continue efforts to find a political solution to the conflict in Yemen, and to support the Yemeni people's efforts to crystallize a map for the future to restore Yemen's stability, development and prosperity of its people, in a way that achieves the Yemeni people's aspirations.

This came during Tuesday's meeting between GCC Secretary-General Jassim Muhammad Al Budaiwi and Special Envoy of the Kingdom of Sweden to the Republic of Yemen Ambassador Peter Semneby, at the HQ of the GCC General Secretariat in Riyadh.

Al Budaiwi stressed the importance of advancing a peaceful solution and ending the conflict in Yemen, and finding a strong ground for launching the political track among all Yemeni components to support a political solution in Yemen.

Both sides also discussed the GCC's firm position on backing legitimacy in Yemen and ending the Yemeni crisis by reaching a political solution to the crisis, according to the three references - the Gulf initiative and its implementation mechanism, the outcomes of the comprehensive national dialogue conference, and UN Security Council Resolution No. 2216.
