Riyadh: Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, praised the agreement to merge all civil and military institutions in northeastern Syria within the institutions of the Syrian Arab Republic, expressing hope that this merger would contribute to supporting the path of stability and development in Syria, and enhance its unity, sovereignty, and independence.
According to Qatar News Agency, Albudaiwi reiterated the GCC’s firm position on calling on all parties and components of the Syrian people to join efforts, prioritize the higher interests, and uphold national unity, to achieve the aspirations of the brotherly people of Syria.
He emphasized the necessity of ensuring the safety of civilians, achieving national reconciliation, preserving the institutions and resources of the Syrian state, integrating armed factions under the umbrella of the Ministry of Defense, and limiting the possession of weapons to the state to safeguard Syria’s security and stability, in addition to restoring its regional role and global standing.
Albudaiwi pointed out that the GCC backs all efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive transitional process that achieves the aspirations of the brotherly people of Syria to stability, development and dignified life.
