Doha: Georgetown University in Qatar, one of the partner universities of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, is set to organize the "Gender in Foreign Policy" conference Thursday on its campus. The conference will discuss methods of improving foreign policy and practice by gender-informed approaches across a multiplicity of contexts including in the use of AI, and examine the specifics of gender in conflict situations with a focus on Afghanistan, Gaza, and Ukraine. The groundbreaking event will convene seasoned diplomats and distinguished foreign policy leaders, including public officials both from the Global North and South, academics, policy experts, and students. The conference will open with remarks by Ambassador Androulla Kaminara, GU-Q Distinguished-Diplomat-in-Residence who is also former ambassador of the European Union in Pakistan, alongside dean of GU-Q Dr. Safwan Masri. Throughout four thematic sessions, the conference will highlight mutually related topics at the intersection of gender and diplomacy, with the second session focusing on women's engagement in the diplomatic practice. The third session will spotlight the role and risks of AI in foreign policy and diplomacy. In the fourth and final session, the event will shed the light on gender in conflict situations, with a focus on Afghanistan, Gaza, and Ukraine. Organized by Georgetown University in Qatar, the conference represents the seventh event in GU-Qs signature Hiwaraat series, launched in the fall of 2023. These series have succeeded in bringing together scholars, experts, and the public for an exploration of shared global challenges so as to create a better future through dialogue and discussion. Each conference in the series offers an inclusive space that encourages community engagement, knowledge creation, and the search for innovative solutions to present and future challenges. The conferences have connected diverse voices from the Global South and the Global North to tackle timely, cross-cutting t opics through a multidisciplinary lens, including the invasion of Iraq, Islamophobia, the political stalemate in Afghanistan, water security in the Gulf, the role of energy in our everyday lives, and the future of Palestine.
