Iraq Calls On Islamic Countries To Overcome Their Differences And Cooperate Against The Dangers Of Geopolitical Conflict, Climate Change And Desertification

Iraq called on Islamic countries to overcome their internal differences and cooperate closely and productively to address the complex dangers represented by geopolitical conflict and the problems of the harmful effects of climate change, desertification and water scarcity. In a speech at the fifteenth summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation countries in the Gambian capital, Banjul, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Multilateral and Legal Affairs, Omar Al-Barzanji, affirmed Iraq's full adherence to the spirit, principles and goals of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, stressing Iraq's commitment to strengthening the role of the organization in the midst of the frenetic international competition taking place in the international arena. He called on Islamic countries to overcome their internal differences and cooperate closely and productively to address the complex dangers represented by the geopolitical conflict facing the countries of the organization, and the problem s of the harmful effects of climate change, the loss of biodiversity, desertification, water scarcity, and the worsening phenomenon of sand storms, reiterating the importance of true solidarity among member states in all political, economic, social and humanitarian fields in a way that transcends restrictions and complexities. He stated, "Dialogue and cooperation between the countries of the organization is the best way to coordinate positions and achieve stability and prosperity for the peoples of the Islamic nation," stressing Iraq's firm and principled position towards the Palestinian issue and its permanent standing by the Palestinian people, and its full support for their struggle to exercise their inalienable national rights, including ending occupation, self-determination, and the establishment of an independent state on all its usurped lands, with Al-Quds as its capital.' He called on the international community to 'assume its moral and legal responsibilities and put an end to the ongoing crimes of genocide committed by the Israeli occupation forces in the Gaza Strip.
