Venice: HE Chairperson of Qatar Museums, Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani, today inaugurated the exhibition titled "untitled 2026 (a gathering of remarkable people)" at Qatar's National Pavilion, part of the 61st International Art Exhibition-La Biennale Di Venezia. This marks Qatar's official participation at the event, hosted at the future site of the permanent Qatar Pavilion in the Giardini della Biennale. According to Qatar News Agency, the exhibition is organized by Qatar Museums and presented by Rubaiya Qatar, a multidisciplinary contemporary art quadrennial set to debut this November. The official ceremony was attended by dignitaries, including HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Italian Republic Khalid bin Youssef Al Sada and Mayor of Venice Luigi Brugnaro. HE Sheikha Al Mayassa emphasized the intention behind Qatar's participation, highlighting it as a vision to encourage dialogue and showcase the talents of Qatar and the region on a global stage. She remarked, "Culture connects what co nflict tries to break apart and honors the humanity in each of us." The exhibition, curated by Rirkrit Tiravanija, aims to create a communal experience, forming a "tribe" that fosters understanding through shared experiences. The exhibition features an experimental narrative film by Qatari-American artist Sophia Al-Maria, a large-scale sculpture by Alia Farid, live musical performances organized by Tarek Atoui, and a Middle Eastern culinary program led by chef Fadi Kattan. The opening included music inspired by classical Arabic structures and culinary offerings prepared by renowned chefs from Qatar, Bahrain, and the UAE. The exhibition is co-curated by Tom Eccles and Ruba Katrib, bringing together a diverse range of artistic expressions.
