Iraqi President: Coalition Forces’ Presence or Withdrawal Will Be Based on Agreements

Doha: Iraqi President Abdullatif Rashid affirmed today that the decision for international coalition forces to remain or withdraw from Iraq will depend on discussions between Baghdad government and security forces, based on a thorough and accurate evaluation of the situation on the ground. Rashid remarked that the election of President Trump has had an impact on Middle East and the world, and all hope to see peace and fulfillment of the new US president’s promises to resolve global conflicts. He highlighted the current dangerous period of instability and conflict in Middle East, particularly war in Gaza and the Palestinian issue.

According to Qatar News Agency, Rashid expressed hope that the ceasefire in Gaza could serve as the first step toward a genuine resolution of the Palestinian issue, stressing that it remains key to peace in the region. On the situation in Syria, Iraqi president underscored Syria’s importance in the Middle East and its role in maintaining security in Iraq, emphasizing that any conflict in the neighboring country affects all surrounding nations.

He also addressed Iraq’s relations with Iran, stating that Baghdad seeks to foster good relations with all of its neighbors. He stressed that Iraq will not allow any party to interfere in its internal affairs or violate its sovereignty, nor will it permit any party to use its territory to launch attacks on neighboring countries.
