IRU Officially Announces the Activation of the TIR Transit Agreement in Qatar

The International Road Transport Union (IRU) has officially announced the activation of the TIR Agreement for Transit in the State of Qatar, and this comes as an important step to strengthen the position of the State of Qatar as a strategic trading partner and to create more effective commercial transport and transportation corridors in the GCC region and globally.

The United Nations TIR system of transit is the only international system that allows the transport of goods from one country to another through transit countries, if necessary, in secure cargo compartments approved by the customs authorities through this multilateral system, which is recognized and supported by the United Nations.

On this occasion, HE Jassim Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti, Minister of Transport and Communications said: "Deploying the TIR system in Qatar is a step forward for linking Qatar’s transport system regionally and globally with a view to increasing trade exchange and supporting economic exchange between countries and this will back our work on developing a sustainable land transportation in addition to cementing the relations between Qatar and UN organizations in the field of transport".
