Jordan and EU Forge EUR 135 Million Agreements to Boost Development and Security

Amman: Jordan and the European Union signed three significant financing agreements on Thursday, aimed at enhancing cooperation in human capital development, refugee support, and border security in Jordan. These agreements, valued at a total of EUR 135 million, are part of the wider comprehensive strategic partnership between the two sides.

According to Qatar News Agency, Jordan's Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation announced that the agreements allocate EUR 30 million for human capital development, EUR 80 million for refugee protection and support to ensure decent livelihoods for host communities and Syrian refugees, and EUR 25 million for integrated border management and internal security. The latter aims to bolster Jordan's capabilities in combating transnational crime, cyber threats, and human trafficking.

The ministry highlighted that the comprehensive strategic partnership, initiated in January 2025, prioritizes peace, security, and sustainable development through five key pillars: human capital development, migration and refugee support, security, economic resilience, and political relations.

The European Union has committed EUR 3 billion to Jordan for the 2025-2027 period, encompassing grants, investments, and soft loans, to address shared challenges and reinforce the strategic partnership between the two regions.
