H.E. Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Subaie, Minister of Municipality, expressed his deep pride on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Doha Municipality. Since its establishment on 1 January 1963 as (the former Municipality of Qatar), Doha Municipality has a long history of local, regional, and international achievements in all fields.

The Minister stated that this occasion serves as an impetus for the Doha Municipality and all its employees to continue working and persevering, in addition to redoubling joint efforts with all governmental and non-governmental sectors, in order to ensure the improvement and enhancement of the system of various municipal services, in addition to the promotion of urban development.

H.E. pointed out that over the past years and since the establishment of Doha city as the image and capital of Qatar, it has been an important station for hosting many local, regional and international events and occasions. The city of Doha hosts the headquarters of the Arab Cities Award, which is one of the institutions of the Arab Towns Organization, since the foundation of the award in 1983. Furthermore, due to its ancient history and heritage, the city of Doha was chosen to be the capital of culture in the Islamic world for 2021.

H.E. the Minister said: " The pivotal role of the city of Doha qualified it to become a member of the Global Network of Learning Cities from the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL), which strengthens its international role as a city that supports learning and its objectives. Moreover, Doha was also approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a healthy city, along with the eight Qatari cities. Hence, Qatar became the first state in the Middle East that all its cities receive this title by the World Health Organization." This is in addition to the city's vital economic, cultural, and other strategic landmarks and facilities.

H.E. also extended his sincere gratitude and thanks to all the directors and officials of the municipality who took position in the management since its establishment, as they had clear impressions and significant contributions to the development and prosperity of the city of Doha leading it to its current state.
