The Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) organised the 26th race meeting in the 2021-22 season at the Al Rayyan Racecourse turf track on Thursday, 6 January. In the eight-race day’s feature contest, Mohammed Abdulhadi Al Hajri’s STYLISH PERFORMER (IRE) (Dandy Man x Va Pensiero) put in a stunning performance for trainer Hamad Al Jehani as he landed the Al Busayyir Cup, a Thoroughbred Conditions over 1400m, cosily by one and a half lengths under jockey Lukas Delozier. The H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani-owned and Rudy Nerbonne-trained Al Shaman (USA) (War Front) was the runner-up under JP Guillambert. The Eng. Osama Omer AlDafea-owned and trained Taxiwala (IRE) (Holy Roman Emperor) was third as he finished only a further neck under Tomas Lukasek.
QREC Racing Manager, Abdulla Rashid Al Kubaisi presented the trophies to the winners.
BACHRA
In the penultimate race of the evening, a blanket finish saw Umm Qarn’s BACHRA (FR) (Munjiz x Al Anood) come out on top in the 1750m Purebred Arabian Handicap (0-95), completing a hat-trick in her fifth outing. Trainer Alban de Mieulle recorded his second win on the card as the 5YO mare prevailed by a neck under Meteb Ali Al Saaq.
VEDUTE
Eng. Hassan Ali Alabdulmalik’s VEDUTE (IRE) (Holy Roman Emperor x Quads) regained winning thread in the 1200m Thoroughbred Handicap (0-95). Eduardo Pedroza partnered the Debbie Mountain-trained 4YO gelding to pick up impressively and win by half a length at the line.
SAOUD AL SULAIMI
Sheikh Abdullah Bin Khalid Bin Nasser Al Thani’s SAOUD AL SULAIMI (QA) (T M Fred Texas x Hasna) won the 1500m Purebred Arabian Handicap (0-80). In the final strides, the Jassim Ghazali-trained 6YO came with an eye-catching late sweeping run to win by a length under Ronan Thomas.
CLOAK AND DAGGER
Faleh Suwayed AL Ajami’s CLOAK AND DAGGER (IRE) (Lope De Vega x Redoutable) got back to winning ways as he landed the 1750m Thoroughbred Handicap (0-80). Under Qais Al Busaidi, the Mohammed Ghazali-saddled 6YO held a handy lead and won with one and a quarter lengths to spare.
AL GHARIYAH
Noora Racing Limited’s AL GHARIYAH (GB) (Dutch Art x Figment) landed the spoils in the 1500m Thoroughbred Novice Plate for Fillies & Mares. Trainer Alban de Mieulle and jockey Soufiane Saadi teamed up to guide the 4YO filly to win by a length at the line.
EZZAT NAFS
In the second race, Szczepan Mazur completed a quick-fire double as he partnered Sabhea Awad Ibrahim’s EZZAT NAFS (QA) (AF AlBahar x Bint Al Ajwad) to success in the 1400m Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate. The Mohamed Khaled Elahmed-trained 5YO mare cruised into the lead to win by two lengths.
AJS BAROOD
Kicking off the day, Al Jeryan Stud’s AJS BAROOD (QA) (Highland Reel x Celtic Filly) gave a sensational performance in the 1200m Local Thoroughbred Maiden Plate as the 3YO colt absolutely bolted up in the hands of Szczepan Mazur for trainer Mohammed Hamad Khalifa Al Attiyah, scoring by incredible 13 lengths.
