More than 100 people died when a boat sank in western Nigeria

More than 100 people were killed in Nigeria, when a boat sank in a river in the west of the country.

According to local police, the boat sank in Kwara state, in the west of the country, while residents said that the accident occurred last night when a wooden boat that was transporting people to Kwara state after a wedding in neighboring Niger state capsized.

"103 people died in the accident, while 100 others survived," said Okasanmi Ajayi, a Spokesman for the Kwara state police.

Last May, 15 children drowned and 25 others went missing, after a boat sank in a river in Sokoto state, northwestern Nigeria.
