Doha: HE National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) Secretary-General Sultan bin Hassan Al Jamali crowned the Ugandan community as champions of the NHRC Ramadan Football Tournament after they defeated the Indian community on penalties. The Nigerian community secured third place in the event, which was organized in collaboration with the Qatar Sports for All Federation.
According to Qatar News Agency, the crowning ceremony was attended by HE Ambassador of the Republic of Uganda in Doha Mohammed Baswari Kezaala, Qatar Sports for All Federation’s Events Coordinator Awad Al Shammari, several NHRC officials, and officials from the participating communities.
HE Al Jamali highlighted that the tournament showcased the spirit of brotherhood, competition, and enthusiasm, and underscored the role of sport as an ambassador for tolerance and coexistence among peoples. Based on the success of the first and second editions, the NHRC plans to open the tournament to all active communities in Qatar. This initiative was further complemented by the engagement of community coordinators and members who supported their teams in a family-friendly atmosphere, adding a significant social dimension to the tournament.
Al Jamali also emphasized the ability of sports to foster cooperation and brotherhood among societies with different cultures, customs, and beliefs. Meanwhile, President of the Qatar-based African Community, Ali Juma Shawl, expressed gratitude to the NHRC for organizing the successful event and its ongoing efforts to promote inclusiveness by raising awareness of the right to sport for all. He praised the tournament as a platform that celebrates unity, diversity, and the strong bonds that exist among various communities in Qatar.
