Ooredoo Group and du Collaborate to Land FIG Subsea Cable in UAE, Enhancing Regional Data Connectivity

Dubai: Ooredoo Group has announced a strategic partnership with du, a leading telecom and digital services provider, to land the Fibre in the Gulf (FIG) subsea cable system in the UAE. This development marks a significant advancement in creating a high-capacity international connectivity platform aimed at meeting the growing data and digital infrastructure needs of the region.

According to Qatar News Agency, the FIG subsea cable system is the largest of its kind ever constructed in the GCC, offering an impressive capacity of up to 720Tbps across 24 fiber pairs. This system is designed to address the increasing demand from hyperscalers, cloud providers, AI platforms, and data center operators, enabling efficient and low-latency data flows across Qatar, the UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, and Oman.

The project is spearheaded by Ooredoo Fibre Networks (OFN), a newly formed independent entity tasked with managing and expanding Ooredoo Group's international connectivity and subsea infrastructure investments. It operates under the leadership of CEO Khalid Al Hamadi.

Ooredoo Group CEO Aziz Aluthman Fakhroo highlighted the importance of the FIG project, stating that it underscores the company's commitment to developing resilient and high-capacity connectivity infrastructure in line with evolving demand. The partnership with du represents a crucial step in the project's execution and, together with progress at other landing points, emphasizes the significance of international connectivity in supporting the region's long-term digital growth.
