Prime Minister Muhammad Al-Sudani affirmed: "Iraq will become an important element in the export of gas during the coming years."

Al-Sudani said in a speech marking the anniversary of the founding of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in Baghdad: "The entry of gas into the energy market has added new responsibilities to the members of (OPEC)."

He added: "Iraq relies on oil as the main resource for the economy, without caring about gas."
