Poland Cancels Fencing Event Over Russian, Belarusian Participation

The Polish Fencing Association said Wednesday it will not host the Olympic qualifying event for womens foil from April 21-23 in Poznan because of the possible participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes.

Last month, the International Fencing Federation voted to allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to resume competing after an exclusion of more than a year coinciding with the start of the qualifiers for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Russian and Belarusian athletes have been banned from participating in most sports competitions since the start of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, but last week the International Olympic Committee recommended sports federations to allow the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes as neutral and according to strict conditions.
