Istanbul: The 152nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) is underway in Istanbul, with the State of Qatar's Shura Council actively participating in the second day of discussions.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Qatari delegation, led by HE the Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, is engaging with parliamentary leaders globally to address the theme "Nurturing hope, securing peace and ensuring justice for future generations". The assembly is a platform to discuss critical issues, including social development, disability rights, the role of artificial intelligence in parliamentary activities, and strategies for post-conflict peace-building.
HE Dr Sultan bin Hassan Al Dabit Al Dosari is contributing to the Committee on Democracy and Human Rights, focusing on a draft resolution that promotes inclusive social development and empowers persons with disabilities. This includes exploring proposals to integrate AI tools into parliamentary work for modernization.
In parallel sessions, HE Ahmed bin Hitmi Al Hitmi is working with the Committee on Peace and International Security. The committee is examining proposals to build effective mechanisms for post-conflict reconstruction and to ensure sustainable peace.
HE Ahmed bin Ibrahim Al Maliki is involved in the Committee on United Nations Affairs, where discussions are centered on enhancing the role of parliaments in bolstering United Nations field engagement efforts.
Additionally, the Shura Council is participating in the meetings of the Association of Secretaries General of Parliaments. These discussions are focused on strengthening parliamentary administrations, fostering cooperation, and sharing best practices among various parliamentary bodies.
The assembly is part of a larger initiative within the IPU to modernize parliamentary institutions and reinforce their ability to confront global political and social challenges.
