Doha: English-language newspaper The Peninsula has condemned Israel’s decision to halt humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip following the conclusion of the first phase of the ceasefire agreement on Sunday. The halt occurred without an agreement to extend into a second phase, and Hamas rejected a proposed temporary truce extension plan.
According to Qatar News Agency, The Peninsula emphasized that Qatar has submitted a written memorandum to the International Court of Justice (ICJ). The memorandum stresses that Israel must allow the United Nations and other international organizations, especially UNRWA, to operate within Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories. It calls for the protection of UN property and personnel, including schools, medical facilities, transportation, and water facilities.
In its Monday editorial, The Peninsula reiterated Qatar’s call for a commitment to facilitate relief programs in the occupied Palestinian territories. It also highlighted the need to repeal the legislation passed by the Israeli Knesset on October 28, 2024, which bans UNRWA activities in Israel and East Jerusalem and restricts contact between Israeli authorities and UNRWA.
Meanwhile, Al-Watan newspaper focused on the deeply rooted tradition of charity work in Qatari society, which is based on cultural and religious teachings. The newspaper emphasized that these traditions have become societal guidelines, promoting solidarity and collective welfare.
Al-Watan noted the existence of a robust political will in Qatar to invest in its cultural heritage, aiming to empower charitable work and ensure its effective involvement in national and international solidarity efforts. The newspaper also highlighted Qatar Charity’s launch of the Ramadan campaign, ‘Giving Lives On’, which aims to support 4.5 million needy people worldwide, including those in conflict and disaster-affected areas.
