Shura Council Speaker Affirms Qatar’s Commitment to Peaceful Diplomacy

Budva: HE Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim emphasized Qatar's dedication to a foreign policy rooted in dialogue, mediation, and peaceful resolutions, guided by the leadership of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and the principles of the Qatari constitution. This approach has been instrumental in mediating conflicts and reconciling perspectives on multiple regional and global issues.

According to Qatar News Agency, Al Ghanim addressed the inaugural summit of Speakers of Parliaments and Presidents of Houses of Representatives of Member and Partner States of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean. The summit, coinciding with the 20th session of the Assembly in Budva, Montenegro, focused on parliamentary diplomacy and the role it plays in reinforcing democratic institutions amidst global crises and tensions.

Al Ghanim highlighted the pressing need for enhanced international efforts to stabilize security and respect international law, especially in light of the ongoing Israeli aggression in the Palestinian territories. He praised the inclusion of an emergency item proposed by Qatar's Shura Council at the Inter-Parliamentary Union's General Assembly in Istanbul. This item, which garnered widespread support, calls for unified parliamentary efforts to enforce ceasefires and promote peace.

He further stressed the crucial role parliaments play in representing citizens' voices and safeguarding their interests. Al Ghanim underscored the necessity of fostering communication and understanding between nations, particularly in the face of current global challenges and the diminishing efficacy of international peacekeeping institutions.

The summit featured contributions from various parliamentary leaders, who underscored the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in promoting dialogue, understanding, and democratic resilience. Discussions focused on key areas such as political and security cooperation, interfaith dialogue, human rights, economic and environmental challenges, migration, and the plight of children in armed conflicts.

This summit marked a pivotal moment for the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, as it convened parliamentary leaders to deliberate on pressing regional and international issues and reinforce collective parliamentary initiatives.
