Shura Council Strongly Condemns Israeli Occupation’s Resumption of Brutal Aggression on Gaza

Doha: The Shura Council held its regular weekly session, chaired by HE the Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, at the Tamim bin Hamad Hall within the Council’s premises. During the session, the legislature expressed strong condemnation of the Israeli occupation’s resumption of aggression on the Gaza Strip. The Council highlighted the perpetration of crimes against the Palestinian people, including the killing of innocent victims, as a violation of international and humanitarian laws.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Council emphasized that these attacks challenge international peace efforts and undermine initiatives aimed at achieving a ceasefire and protecting civilians. It stressed that the aggressive policies of the occupation escalate the situation and increase Palestinian suffering, necessitating urgent action to protect the Palestinian people and stop ongoing violations.

The Shura Council reiterated Qatar’s firm position on the Palestinian cause and the right of Palestinians to self-determination and an independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. This stance aligns with the Arab Peace Initiative and relevant international resolutions.

During the session, the Council approved a draft law on ministers and forwarded it to the government after reviewing the Legal and Legislative Affairs Committee’s report. Additionally, the session included a review of the Council’s participation in the Coalition of Women MPs from Arab Countries to Combat Violence against Women meeting, held in June 2024 via videoconference.

The Council also discussed its delegation’s participation in the Fourth Parliamentary Policy Dialogue on Countering the Use of AI and New Technologies for Terrorist Purposes and the Sixth Meeting of the Counter-Terrorism Coordination Mechanism for Parliamentary Assemblies, both held in Rome in December 2024.
