State of Qatar Wins ICAO Council Membership

The State of Qatar has won membership of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council for the first time in its history on Group C for the next three years (2023-2025), following the elections held yesterday evening, at the meetings of the 41st Session of the ICAO Assembly that are currently held at its headquarters in Montreal, Canada, with participation of delegations of 171 states entitled to vote out of 193 Member States of ICAO.

 

Qatar has achieved a landslide victory in elections and garnered 160 votes, making it one of the highest-scoring candidates on Group C, something that emphasizes the State’s significant contributions and efforts in civil aviation industry.

 

Commenting on this occasion, HE Mr. Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti, Minister of Transport, said that the State of Qatar’s winning the membership of ICAO Council emphasizes the State’s status and recognition in international forums regionally and globally under the leadership of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

 

HE added that this also reflects ICAO Member States’ confidence that the State of Qatar is capable of significantly contributing to finding solutions to the aviation industry’s current and future challenges.
