Aleppo, The Middle East delegate for the Swiss 'IL GIARDINO DEI BAMBINI' organization, Seydi Gosteris, called for accelerating efforts to lift Western sanctions imposed on Syria, demanding her country to contribute to achieving this goal as blockade leaves negative effects on the lives of Syrians in various vital sectors.
Gosteris, during a meeting on Wednesday with the pastor of the Diocese of Aleppo and its surroundings for Syriac Orthodox, Bishop Boutros Qasis and the committee concerned in the archdiocese, Gosteris talked about the suffering of Syrians because of the sanctions, pointing out that all social groups are affected by the repercussions of those sanctions, particularly children and the elderly.
In a statement to a SANA, Gosteris said that the Swiss organization is exerting every possible effort to help the Syrian people, orphan children and the elderly, and encourage farmers to activate the agricultural sector and provide possible ways to support them. 'We appeal to the West to lift the sanctions imposed on Syria, because the Syrian people are suffering from extreme difficulty, and above all we ask the Swiss government to be the mediator to lift the sanctions imposed by the West on the Syrian people.' She said.
Bishop Qasis, for his part, referred to the role of the Church in conveying the true image of what is going on in Syria and raising the banner of humanity high to help the Syrian people in all the disasters that have affected them over the past years, and to stand by them to rise again, and to remove the obstacles represented by the unilateral sanctions imposed by the West.
