Taiwan Question at Core of China’s Interests

Beijing: Taiwan Question at Core of China’s Interests: Beijing has affirmed that the recent drills conducted by the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) near Taiwan are a “just and necessary” move to safeguard national sovereignty and peace in the Taiwan Strait, noting that the Taiwan question is at the core of China’s interests and a red line that cannot be crossed.

According to Qatar News Agency, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council of China, Chen Binhua, stated that the drills are a resolute countermeasure to Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te’s actions, which are seen as propagating separatist fallacies aimed at “Taiwan independence” and escalating tensions across the Strait.

Chen elaborated that Lai’s actions constitute gross provocations against the one-China principle. These actions have severely undermined cross-Strait relations, continuously pushing Taiwan closer to the brink of war, and have gravely endangered peace and stability in the region.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning, during a press briefing, emphasized that China’s complete reunification is inevitable. Mao asserted that seeking “Taiwan independence” with foreign support is destined for failure.

Mao further explained that the Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities have been attempting to break the international community’s adherence to the one-China principle under the guise of cooperation in various fields such as economy, trade, science, technology, culture, and education.

“China always firmly opposes any form of official exchange between Taiwan authorities and any country that has diplomatic relations with China,” Mao added.

Taiwan remains one of the most sensitive issues for China, which views it as an inseparable part of its territory and rejects any separatist actions aimed at achieving its independence.
