The Human Rights Office In Basra Discusses With UNAMI Humanitarian Files And Mechanisms Of Joint Cooperation

The Director of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Basra, Mahdi Al-Tamimi, discussed today with the representative of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UUNAMI), (Namik Haiderov) and the Director of the Human Rights Office in the UUNAMI, Raafat Abdel-Tawab, the most important humanitarian files and mechanisms of joint cooperation to promote and protect human rights in the province.

The office stated in a statement, "The two sides discussed the most important challenges facing the protection of fundamental rights, foremost of which is freedom of expression, civil space, and the conditions of defenders," noting that "they discussed the file of environmental pollution, water shortage, high cancerous injuries, joint steps in this file, and work according to new methods of joint cooperation in the field of raising awareness and supporting workers in the field of human rights.

For his part, the representative of the UNAMI expressed his satisfaction with this meeting and the next steps on the ground to promote and protect human rights.
