Unidentified gunmen assassinated a policeman in an agricultural village, northeast of Baquba, the center of Diyala Governorate.

A security source told the correspondent of the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA) that "unknown persons assassinated a policeman by shooting him while his vehicle was passing on the road leading to the village of Zuhairat on the outskirts of Abi Saida district, northeast of Baquba, which resulted in his death on the spot.

The source added that a rapid response force imposed a tight security cordon around the site of the accident, which is the first of its kind in several months.
