Doha: The World Table Tennis (WTT) Youth Star Contender Doha 2022, which kicks off at the Aspire Ladies Sports Hall on Monday, will give Qatar’s age-group players a perfect venue to test their skills against the world’s best.
The hosts will field 12 players in the Under-15 tournament. They are: Yousif Abdalla, Abdulaziz Al Abdulla, Essa Al Haddad, Obad Al Abdulla, Mohammed Salem Al Ansari, Mohammed Al Hammadi, Sultan Al Kuwari, Mohammed Al Sulaiti, Rawad Al Naser, Khalid Alyafei, Ahmed Korani and Ahmed Saadawi.
Eighteen-year-old Abdullah Abdulwahhab will be Qatar’s sole representative at the Under-19 event.
Qatar Table Tennis Association President Khalil Ahmad Al Mohannadi felt competing against older players would be advantageous in the long run.
“We’ve a young team and they’ll face older opponents. But they’ve also been training hard. The strong competitive experience will only stand them in good stead,” Al Mohannadi told Inside Qatar, on the sidelines of an ITTF U-15 and U-19 High Performance Camp at the Aspire Academy on Sunday.
