Denmark Pledges Additional Support of $1.4 Million to UNRWA

Denmark: Denmark pledged Thursday to provide additional support of 10.2 million kroner (about $1.4 million) to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), noting that its annual contribution to the UN agency’s budget of 105 million kroner will be disbursed immediately rather than divided over the year.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Danish government stated that the new contribution is aimed at enhancing the internal reform process of UNRWA and supporting its ongoing work. Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen emphasized that the increase in support highlights Denmark’s commitment to the mission of UNRWA. He also expressed concern about recent Israeli laws that may affect the agency’s operations.

UNRWA has been providing support to Palestinian refugees throughout the Middle East for over 70 years. However, on October 28, the Israeli Knesset prohibited its activities in the occupied Palestinian territories, raising concerns about the future of its operations in the region.
