Rome: HE Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti affirmed the State of Qatar’s firm position towards supporting the stability of the Middle East region, stressing that achieving international peace and security is a top priority for Qatari policy.
According to Qatar News Agency, this statement was part of her speech at the 19th plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean in Rome, Italy, focusing on ‘Security and development challenges in the Mediterranean region.’ Her Excellency highlighted Qatar’s mediation role in resolving conflicts and its dedication to promoting peaceful solutions and international cooperation.
Dr. Hamda Al Sulaiti discussed the Gaza Strip’s situation, emphasizing the destruction caused by ongoing conflict and Qatar’s cooperative efforts with partners to achieve a ceasefire. She pointed out the continued Israeli aggression obstructing humanitarian aid and reconstruction in Gaza. Her Excellency firmly rejected any calls for displacing Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, advocating for a just solution to the Palestinian issue based on international legitimacy.
The speech also covered a broad range of topics addressed by the Plenary Assembly, including counter-terrorism, where Qatar plays a significant role by hosting two UN counter-terrorism offices and promoting preventive diplomacy. Qatar’s environmental commitments were emphasized, detailing initiatives like the Qatar National Environment and Climate Change Strategy and plans to reduce carbon emissions.
Dr. Hamda Al Sulaiti highlighted the importance of artificial intelligence and Qatar’s legislative efforts to ensure its safe use, aligning with the National Vision 2030. Additionally, she underscored Qatar’s dedication to dialogue among civilizations, supporting initiatives like the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and launching the Qatar Global Award for Dialogue Among Civilizations.
The session also covered other regional and international issues, including human trafficking, the right to safe drinking water, economic transformations, food security challenges, and geopolitical developments.
