Qatar Calls for Comprehensive Solution to Palestinian Cause for Global Stability

New York: The State of Qatar affirmed that regional and global stability cannot be achieved without a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause in accordance with international legitimacy. It emphasized that Palestine is not merely a political issue confined to its geography but is a central issue that affects the fate of peace and stability in the Middle East and the world as a whole.

According to Qatar News Agency, this statement was delivered by HE Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Seif Al-Thani, at the open debate of the UN Security Council on “Maintenance of International Peace and Security: Practicing Multilateralism, Reforming and Improving Global Governance” at the UN headquarters in New York. Her Excellency noted that since the beginning of the war on the Gaza Strip, Qatar’s mediation efforts, in collaboration with Egypt and the United States, led to a ceasefire agreement and prisoner exchange between Israel and Hamas on January 15, 2025. She expressed hope that this agreement would pave the way for a credible political process leading to a comprehensive and just peace for the Palestinian cause, ensuring the right to self-determination for the Palestinian people and the establishment of their independent state with sovereignty on the 1967 borders.

HE Sheikha Alia stressed the significance of practicing multilateralism and reforming global governance, particularly as 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the United Nations. This milestone presents an opportunity to renew the commitment to the UN’s founding mission, which is “to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war,” and to build a just international system with the UN at its forefront as the first step in the path of multilateral action. She reiterated Qatar’s call for adopting a comprehensive approach to prevent conflicts and achieve sustainable peace, highlighting the country’s pride in its mediation efforts that have contributed to de-escalation and conflict resolution.

Additionally, she explained that Qatar’s mediation efforts reflect its commitment to resolving conflicts through peaceful means, dialogue, and preventive diplomacy, contributing to strengthening international peace and security. Her Excellency emphasized the importance of ensuring the equal and uniform application of international law by all countries and international judicial institutions, stating that double standards undermine the authority of international law.

HE Sheikha Alia renewed Qatar’s call to strengthen the role of the Security Council in maintaining international peace and security, highlighting the need to expedite the reform process to address global challenges. She reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to multilateral action and urged for an accelerated reform process to improve global governance and enhance the collective ability to respond effectively to global challenges.
