Qatar Engages in Key Discussions at GCC Food Safety Ministerial Meeting

Doha: The State of Qatar took an active role in the 10th ministerial committee meeting on food safety for Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, which was conducted virtually. The meeting saw participation from HE Minister of Public Health Mansoor bin Ebrahim Al Mahmoud representing Qatar.

According to Qatar News Agency, the meeting focused on significant food safety matters. Key topics included facilitating the movement of food commodities across GCC markets through temporary exemptions under prevailing exceptional conditions. Discussions also covered the GCC guide for imported food control and the unified GCC food law.

The committee deliberated on the GCC Center for Food Risk Assessment, regulations related to novel foods, and strategies for imposing and lifting bans on imports of animal-origin food products. Additionally, they explored the development of a unified GCC food safety policy document and a proposed regional food safety action plan.
