Moscow: An international roundtable discussion held in the Russian capital, Moscow, stressed the importance of the State of Qatar’s role in global events, including the settlement of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
According to Qatar News Agency, the event, organized by the Russian Sputnik News Agency with the participation of experts and officials, discussed the role of the Middle East in the Russian-Ukrainian settlement and the economic consequences of the conflict on the region. The discussion also explored the impact of the current international situation on issues of security, trade, and cooperation between Arab countries and Russia.
First Deputy Chairman of the Russia Muftis Council, Rushan Abbyasov, highlighted that the State of Qatar, along with other countries in the region such as Saudi Arabia and the UAE, has been playing a crucial role in international processes, particularly in promoting a settlement in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. He emphasized the Middle East’s significant contribution to resolving various issues and its emergence as a major actor in global politics, actively shaping a multipolar world order.
Amal Abou Zeid, Advisor to former President of Lebanon, also contributed to the discussion by underscoring the influence of Russia-US relations on developments in the Arab region. He noted that representatives from Russia and the US have been meeting in Turkiye and Saudi Arabia to find common ground not only on the Ukraine settlement but also on other major topics, including the Palestinian issue.
Gyulnara Gadzhimuradova, Head of the Demographics and Migration Policy Department at MGIMO University, remarked on Russia’s consistent provision of humanitarian, military, and diplomatic assistance to Middle Eastern countries. She pointed out Russia’s role in helping settle regional conflicts, including the Palestinian issue. Furthermore, Andrei Kortunov, Academic Director of the Russian International Affairs Council, discussed the Middle East’s interest in settling the Russia-Ukraine conflict. He noted that Gulf countries and the broader Arab world stand to gain from improved Russia-Ukraine and Russia-US relations, which could lead to new opportunities for cooperation in sectors like nuclear energy, science and technology, and transport and logistics projects.
