The Federal Supreme Court rejects the appeal to amend the Journalists Syndicate Law and considers it in accordance with the Constitution and there is nothing that contradicts its provisions

The Federal Supreme Court rejected the appeal to cancel the Fourth Amendment to the Journalists Syndicate Law No. 56 of 2017, as it does not conflict with the Constitution and there is nothing in it that contradicts its provisions.. The decision of the Federal Supreme Court, No. 24/Federal/2024, published on its website, stated that the request submitted by the plaintiffs against the Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives / in addition to his job and the Head of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate / in addition to his job, said that the above amendment is a legislative and constitutional decision and that its purpose is to raise the level of the profession, preserving its dignity, securing its rights and defending its interests. The Federal Supreme Court indicated in its decision that the fourth amendment to the amended Iraqi Journalists Syndicate Law No. 178 of 1969 came to develop the Syndicate's visual, audio, written and electronic institutions and enable journalists to perform their journalistic m ission with complete freedom. The amendment also contained organizational matters, including the election of the two vice presidents, members of the council and the two disciplinary committees, and the monitoring and representatives of the Syndicate in the governorates by majority and by secret vote for a period of four years, as well as the election of the head, according to the last amendment, for two consecutive electoral sessions, the duration of which is four years, and that these amendments to the law are consistent and consistent with the Constitution of the Republic of Iraq for the year 2005 and the principles of democracy, and they do not represent any constitutional violation.
