S. Korea’s Military Partially Resumes Live-Fire Drills after Accidental Fighter Jet Bombing

Doha: South Korea’s defense ministry announced the partial resumption of live-fire military drills following a full suspension due to an accidental bombing by fighter jets earlier this month. The incident, which occurred on March 6, involved two KF-16 fighter jets mistakenly bombing a town in Pocheon, located approximately 40 kilometers north of Seoul. The bombing resulted in injuries to 38 people and led to the suspension of all exercises involving live ammunition.

According to Qatar News Agency, the defense ministry will restart live-fire drills involving rifles and smaller firearms starting Tuesday. These exercises will be conducted at units involved in operations and boot camps, although activities in Pocheon will remain suspended. An interim investigation by the Air Force revealed that the accidental bombing was caused by pilot error, as one of the pilots input the wrong target coordinates during preparations for the exercise.
